Helpful Information

PRICING - See the pricing sheet for a complete list of services and prices. To calculate the square inches of your quilt, multiply the length by the width. For example, 45” x 70” equals 3,150 square inches. Measuring the linear inches of your quilt means adding up the length of each side of a quilt. 45+70+45+70 = 230 linear inches

MAXIMUM QUILT SIZES - We can accommodate quilt tops up to 140" wide. Backings and battings should be 3 to 4" larger on all sides than your quilt top. Quilt length is unlimited. This generous size means everything from a table runner or baby quilt up to a California King sized quilt can be accepted.

PREPARING YOUR QUILT:

  • Check that your batting and backing are large enough to maintain 3 to 4" excess vs your quilt top on all sides. If you do not have the extra 4 inches of backing, a leader will need to be attached to the top & bottom of the backing fabric to mount it in the frame. Please call to discuss if you find yourself in this situation.

  • Press your quilt top and back, checking for leftover pins at the same time. Make sure your quilt top lies flat and square. A quilt with fullness in the body or borders may not lie flat when loaded on the frame. When a quilt top is not square it can lead to wrinkles, folds, or waves in the quilt top. A quick check to see if your quilt is square is to fold it in quarters and see if the outside edges line up well.

  • Trim any loose threads from the front and back of your quilt top.

  • Clearly mark the top of your quilt top. (Use a large safety pin with a piece of paper, for example)

  • If you are piecing your backing it is best to have the seam running horizontally. Horizontal seams on your backing help with your quilt not sagging on the frame.

  • If you have pieced blocks for your backing, please note that perfect centering is not possible as the back of the quilt can’t be seen once loaded in the frame.  However, we can place it to show the area you want most to highlight. Just mark which area that you want to be highlighted.

  • Secure your border seams if you do not have a solid quilt border. (3 or 4 stitches across your perimeter seams, about 1/8" from the edge.) This will help keep the top from stretching without distorting your outside edge.

  • Do not pin or baste your layers together.

  • Remove all embellishments such as buttons, charms, sequins, etc from the quilt top and/or backing.

  • Please don’t apply the binding, prairie points, or other edge finishing to the quilt top until after it is completely quilted.

  • If you are supplying binding, it needs to be of appropriate length, 2.5" wide, and pressed in half lengthwise.

FULLNESS DISCLAIMER - Fullness and/or puckers within a quilt top cannot be quilted out. We cannot guarantee that puckers and tucks won't be sewn in. In some cases excessive fullness in borders may result in quilt top corners not being square. The flatter your quilt top is, (ironing helps a lot) the better the finished quilt will turn out.

MACHINE QUILTING DISCLAIMER - Longarm sewing machines are mechanical devices and on rare occasions mechanical problems can develop which may result in minor damage to a quilt top and/or backing.

ALLERGEN NOTICE - Our quilting environment is smoke free and cat free however we do have dogs.  All quilt tops are placed on hangers and enclosed in garment bags until quilted.  They are then placed in plastic quilt bags.  Floors are swept daily and vacuumed bi-weekly.  Everything possible it done to keep dog hair to a minimum, except getting rid of the dogs.

SHIPPING - Quilts needing to be shipped will ship USPS Priority Mail at your expense. Shipping costs will be added to the final invoice.

PAYMENT - Any quilt left for more than 30 days after completion and invoicing will be sold to settle the account. I accept cash, checks, and credit cards (3% processing fee applies).

Labels

Labels are the finishing touch on any quilting project. They can be simple or detailed. It's all up to you and your vision.

We offer a few options for you to choose from. All labels can be attached by us or sent home with your quilt to add with your own hand stitching.

Each option has 2 different choices for attaching it to the quilt:

  • Corner Label: This triangle shaped label is sewn under the binding of the quilt along the 2 short sides of the label.

  • Rectangular Label: This square or rectangular label is hand sewn down on the quilt back along all 4 sides. Handsewing is done to ensure stitching isn't visible on the front of the quilt.

Label 1: Hand written label on Kona cotton (white or natural).

  • $18 for a 5" label with up to 4 lines

  • $20 for a 6" label with up to 6 lines

Label 2:  Hand written label in your handwriting on Kona cotton (white or natural). This can be a blank label attached to the quilt for you to write on at home, or you may be sent a blank label and appropriate pen for you to return for us to attach.

  • $15 for a 5" Label, either square or triangle.

Label 3: Ink Jet Printed Label. The precise lettering of this option is ideal for quilts dedicated to be heirlooms or when finishing a vintage quilt to document its history.

  • $20 for 5 printed lines (14 pt font)

  • $25 for 6 - 10 printed lines (14 pt font)

Total cost estimate may vary from the above prices depending on the amount of extra work required. There is a minimum charge of $25.00. Prices are as of January 1, 2024 and are subject to change without notice.

The total balance must be paid on completion and prior to shipping. Shipping charges will vary by location and size of quilt.
